🍫 Chocolate Coconut Balls ! 🥥
November 8, 2024
These chocolate coconut balls are a beloved treat in our family. We first discovered them at a small patisserie where parents would buy them as birthday treats for kids to share at kindergarten. When my oldest, Artur, started school, I tried recreating the recipe at home to bring that little tradition into our kitchen. Now, it’s something Artur, Matteo, and I make together – and I can’t wait to include baby Olivia in the fun very soon!
Last Christmas, during a social meeting with my remote colleagues, I was excited to recommend this recipe. Working as a project manager, our virtual gatherings can feel distant, but sharing a piece of home made it feel warmer.
Ingredients
- 300 g plain biscuit crumbs
- 1/2 cup chocolate powder
- 100 g butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 400 ml milk
- 5 tablespoons honey
- 50 g desiccated coconut
Instructions
Prepare the Mixture:
Place the biscuit crumbs and butter in a pot over low heat.
Add the Flavors:
Stir in the chocolate powder, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix for about 20 seconds until everything is combined.
Add the Honey:
Remove from heat and add the honey. Let the mixture cool so it’s easy to handle.
Form the Balls:
Once cooled, take small portions and roll them into balls. This is the kids’ favorite part – they love getting their hands on the dough!
Coat and Chill:
Roll each ball in desiccated coconut, then arrange them on a tray and chill in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
Tips
- Homemade Biscuit Crumbs: If you don’t have plain biscuit crumbs, just blend your favorite biscuits in a food processor.
- Adults-Only Twist: If there are no kids around, you can replace the vanilla extract with a splash of rum for a richer flavor.
These treats disappear fast, and my kids love shaping the dough into little balls. It’s always a joyful, messy experience that brings us all together.
Even if you’re not the greatest cook, give these a try – they’re easy to make, budget-friendly, and the kids love them! If coconut isn’t your favorite, you can coat the balls in colorful sprinkles or any topping you like.
Enjoy!
