Why Baldur's Gate III Lives Up to the Hype

Larian Studios did an amazing job. You can see the amount of dedication and hard work they put into Baldur's Gate III, a project that took them over six years to develop. In a market where microtransactions are being normalized, Baldur's Gate III has proven that the formula for success is passion.

Founded in 1996, Larian Studios is a Belgian game developer known for the Divinity series. With BG3, they took on the monumental task of reviving the iconic Baldur's Gate franchise, and they did so with remarkable skill and respect for the source material. The game entered early access in October 2020, allowing players to experience and provide feedback on the initial chapters, and finally saw its full release in August 2023.

I'm used to playing action games or open-world RPGs, so when I heard about BG3, I was curious because the whole community was talking about it. So I decided to check it out, and wow—the hype was real.

The first thing I noticed is that the developers respect your intelligence and your time, delivering a well-polished product with smart dialogues and characters that you can bond with. The interactions with NPCs are also rich and meaningful, which means if you ignore them, you will end up missing out on great and fun quests.

In my first playthrough, I was fascinated by the choices that I could make within the game. What would I want to be there? The good guy or the villain? You can be both, and the choices you make impact the dynamic of the game.

Overall, Baldur's Gate III offers an immersive experience that stands out in today's gaming industry. It combines a compelling narrative, complex characters, and meaningful choices that truly affect the game world. If you're looking for a game that values player agency and delivers a rich, engaging story without resorting to microtransactions, BG3 is definitely worth your time.
